India Simplifies Automotive Radar Adoption with New 77–81 GHz Framework

India has introduced a new regulatory framework that removes licensing requirements for automotive radar systems operating in the 77–81 GHz frequency band. This move is expected to accelerate the adoption of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and enhance vehicle safety across the transportation sector.

The exemption allows compliant automotive radar equipment to be installed, operated, sold, and possessed without individual licenses, subject to specified technical and operational conditions.

By aligning with international practices, the new framework supports the deployment of technologies such as collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection, and automated parking systems.

The initiative is expected to encourage innovation, simplify market access for manufacturers, and contribute to the development of safer and smarter mobility solutions across India.
