SUBTEL Updates Chile’s Short-Range Device Regulation to Support Medical Innovation

Chile’s Subsecretariat of Telecommunications (SUBTEL) has updated Resolution No. 1985/2017, the country’s Technical Standard for Short-Range Devices, introducing new measures designed to support technological innovation while simplifying regulatory compliance.

One of the most significant changes is the inclusion of ultra-low-power active implantable medical devices operating in the 9–315 kHz frequency band. This update paves the way for the adoption of advanced healthcare technologies and expands opportunities for innovative medical applications in the Chilean market.

The revised regulation also streamlines compliance procedures by providing greater flexibility for the submission of confidential test reports through digital channels. Additionally, the updated rules offer manufacturers more freedom in the design and sizing of QR codes used for regulatory identification, provided their readability and functionality are maintained.

Through Resolution No. 966/2026, which amends Resolution No. 1985/2017, SUBTEL continues to modernize Chile’s telecommunications framework, facilitating market access for new technologies while promoting efficiency, innovation, and regulatory transparency.
