Canada ISED Adoption of standard ETSI EN 301 893 V2.2.1 (2024-11)

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has announced its proposal to adopt ETSI EN 301 893 V2.2.1 (2024-11)5 GHz WAS/RLAN; Harmonised Standard for access to radio spectrum.

Currently, under RSS-247 – Digital Transmission Systems, Frequency Hopping Systems and Licence-Exempt Local Area Network Devices, ETSI EN 301 893 is accepted as an alternative to KDB 905462 for Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) testing. The exception is the 5600–5650 MHz band, where ETSI EN 301 893 remains the only accepted method.

To support a smooth transition, ISED proposes a six-month period during which compliance can be demonstrated using either:

  • ETSI EN 301 893 V1.8.1 (2015-03), or

  • ETSI EN 301 893 V2.2.1 (2024-11).

Following this transition, all new certifications must use the V2.2.1 (2024-11) version. The updated standard introduces enhanced requirements for client devices with radar detection capabilities.
