Colombia Expands Flexibility in the 900 MHz Band to Boost Connectivity

Colombia’s National Spectrum Agency (ANE) has introduced new flexibility for the 900 MHz frequency band through Resolution 28 of 2026, updating the National Frequency Allocation Table (CNABF). This regulatory change removes the band’s exclusive identification for IMT mobile services and aligns its use with international ITU radio regulations. The updated framework allows a broader range of users to access the band, improving spectrum planning and enabling a more efficient and inclusive management approach.

The 900 MHz band is known for its strong propagation and indoor penetration capabilities, making it highly effective for extending connectivity to rural and remote areas. By enabling diverse applications and technologies, not limited to traditional mobile networks, the measure supports innovation and encourages new connectivity models at regional and local levels. The initiative also supports community networks and small‑scale residential internet providers, reinforcing national efforts to close the digital divide.

With this update, the ANE strengthens its commitment to a more inclusive and technically sound spectrum policy, aiming to expand meaningful connectivity throughout Colombia.
