Jordan TRC Updates Telecom Device Approval Rules

Jordan’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) has introduced new regulations for importing and using telecom devices. The rules apply to wired and wireless equipment, terminal devices, and network infrastructure.

Main Points
  • Who Can Apply: Only registered companies and licensed traders.
  • Requirements: Business registration, valid license, technical conformity certificates, and accredited test reports.
  • Approval Validity: Type approval lasts two years, renewable before expiry.
  • Temporary Import & R&D: Allowed for up to six months; research entities can import up to 30 units per model.
  • Prohibited Devices: Signal jammers and unauthorized mobile boosters.
Exempted Products

Devices that do not require type approval or import permission if they meet basic technical standards:

  • Office & IT Equipment: Printers, scanners, projectors, monitors, desktop PCs.
  • Cameras: Wired and wireless without high-power radio.
  • Bluetooth-only Devices: Headsets, keyboards, mice.
  • Consumer Electronics: Wireless chargers, infrared remotes.
  • Networking Components: Empty cabinets, cables, wires.
  • Storage Devices: Hard drives and other storage units.
  • GPS Navigation Units: Without high-power radio.
  • Low-Power Accessories: Toys with short-range radio, RFID access control, sensors.

These exemptions simplify imports for common consumer and office electronics.
