ACMA Updates Class Licence for Low Interference Potential Devices (LIPD) 2025

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced the remaking of the Radiocommunications (Low Interference Potential Devices) Class Licence 2025, which will come into effect on 1 October 2025.

This class licence allows the operation of low-power devices without the need for individual licences, making market access easier for emerging technologies.

Key Updates

The updated licence includes provisions for:

  • Audio wireless transmitters using Wireless Multichannel Audio Systems (WMAS) in the 520–694 MHz band.

  • Frequency-hopping radiocommunications transmitters in the 5925–6425 MHz band.

  • Digital modulation radiocommunications transmitters in the 5150–5250 MHz band.

  • RLAN radiocommunications transmitters in the 6425–6585 MHz band.

  • Radiodetermination transmitters in the 13.4–14 GHz band.

  • Radiodetermination transmitters in the 76–77 GHz band.

Next Steps

The new licence will take effect on 1 October 2025. Manufacturers and importers of devices operating in the specified frequency bands must ensure that their products comply with the updated licence requirements to operate legally in Australia.
