Brazil’s telecommunications regulator ANATEL has issued Act No. 5885 on April 29, 2026, establishing updated technical requirements for the certification and use of indoor mobile signal boosters (SMP).
The new rules define strict performance, safety, and compliance standards for devices designed to improve indoor mobile coverage. These boosters play a key role in enhancing connectivity in areas with weak signals, supporting essential services such as electronic payments, communications, and emergency alerts.
The act introduces detailed technical parameters, including limits on transmission power, gain, noise, and out-of-band emissions. It also mandates advanced safeguards such as automatic gain control and interference prevention mechanisms to ensure that boosters do not disrupt mobile networks.
Additionally, the regulation reinforces user protection by requiring certified equipment, proper installation, and coordination with mobile service providers. Clear warning messages must accompany devices, emphasizing responsible use and immediate shutdown in case of interference.
By updating the compliance framework, ANATEL aims to improve service continuity, strengthen network reliability, and support the safe expansion of mobile connectivity across Brazil.
