IFT Closes Operations After 12 Years

Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has officially ceased operations after 12 years of regulating the telecom and broadcasting sectors. The closure follows a constitutional reform passed in December 2024, which eliminated several autonomous agencies to streamline government functions.

Created in 2013, the IFT played a key role in promoting competition, expanding mobile networks, and managing spectrum. Its responsibilities, including oversight of telecom licenses and spectrum allocation, will now be handled by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission under the Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications.
