Algeria has officially brought into force a new executive decree regulating the approval of electronic communications equipment. The decree modernizes the national framework by introducing clearer procedures for placing telecommunications equipment on the market and ensuring compliance with technical and safety requirements.
The new rules define the documentation and technical information that manufacturers, importers, and distributors must submit when requesting approval. Applications are now processed through a digital platform, and each equipment model must be supported by a functional sample for evaluation.
Once approved, equipment receives a certificate of conformity valid for five years. Temporary-use equipment—such as devices brought in for demonstrations, testing, or professional activities, may be exempt from full approval procedures.
The decree also strengthens market oversight, allowing authorities to conduct compliance checks at any time. Any change to a device’s technical specifications, model, or origin requires a new approval request. Existing certificates remain valid until they expire.
The entry into force of this decree aims to increase transparency, enhance user safety, and ensure that all electronic communications equipment operating in Algeria meets recognized technical standards.
