Type Approval Is Now Required for Electronic Communications Equipment in Eswatini

The Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) has announced that type approval is now mandatory for all electronic communications equipment imported, distributed, or used in Eswatini.

Effective 13 April 2026, all equipment must hold a valid Type Approval Certificate in accordance with the Electronic Communications (Importation, Type Approval and Distribution of Communications Equipment) Regulations, 2016. The requirement applies to manufacturers, importers, distributors, and service providers across the communications sector.

To ensure compliance, ESCCOM is enforcing the rule in coordination with the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS). Type approval certificates will be verified at all ports of entry, with controls integrated into the ASYCUDAWorld customs system to prevent the clearance of non‑compliant equipment.

ESCCOM also provides an online database of approved equipment on its official website, allowing stakeholders to confirm approval status prior to importation. The measure is intended to protect consumers, safeguard network integrity, and align Eswatini’s regulatory framework with international best practices.

Companies operating in Eswatini are encouraged to review their equipment pipelines and import procedures to ensure full compliance with the new requirement.
